MEN’S INDUSTRIAL BASKETBALL – REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Games will be played at the Collinsville YMCA throughout the week starting
March 23rd. Get your co-workers together and form a team!! This is an organized
league and officials will be at all games. Registration deadline is March 1st or
when maximum of 12 teams are signed up.
Date / Time: Weekly, starting March 23rd6:00pm
Location: Collinsville YMCA Gymnasium
Cost: $250 team entry fee

ARBOR DAY POSTER CONTEST
Join Henry County Parks & Recreation, Martinsville Parks & Recreation and the
Virginia Museum of Natural History for the 2010 Arbor Day Poster Contest!!
This contest is open to any child in the 5th grade. For rules or more

· Posters are due March 2nd.
· Posters will be judged by HCPR, MPR and the VMNH Staff
· Certificates will be reward to all participants
· Celebration for local winners will be March 18th at the National Armory

MADDEN PLAYSTATION TOURNAMENT
Are you a Madden Football nut? Do you think you’re unbeatable? Join other
“Madden-aniacs” and test your skills at 2nd Annual Parks and Recreation / Movie
Town Madden Football Tournament. The tournament will be run in a bracket
system (single elimination). Prizes and trophies will be awarded so come on out
& take the “Madden Challenge” to prove your gaming ability. This is a great
event for your kid’s on there day off from school! Refreshments and snacks also
available for purchase. Games will be played on a 228 inch screen!! Space is
limited to the first 32 participants so register immediately!! To register please
contact HCPR at 634.4645. Tournaments start at 9:00am (players will be assigned
time slots).

QUAIL HALLOW CHAMPIONSHIP IN CHARLOTTE, NC (PGA TOUR
EVENT)
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Join Henry County Parks and Recreation as we travel to Charlotte, NC to watch
the final round (Sunday action) of the Wachovia Championship. This is one of the
best tournaments on the PGA Tour. Some of last years participants included:
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and Davis Love III amongst many
others. Registration deadline is March 10, 2010 or whenever the trip is full, so
please sign up ASAP! For more information or to register for this trip please call
634.4645. Date: April 25th at the Quail Hollow Golf Course in Charlotte, NC.
Cost is $109 (cost includes round trip transportation via chartered motorcoach and
ticket to Sunday Quail Hollow Championship.
CHEERFEST
Cheerfest is an end of the season celebration for our Spirit Squad Teams. The
Spirit Squad members show the parents and crowd what they learned throughout
the year and each coach is recognized with a gift of appreciation. The event is
ended with snacks and a small gift for each Spirit Squad member.

GROUP VOICE LESSONS
These “Group Voice Lessons” are put on by Woodall's Music and will get you on
the path to learning more about your voice and how to use it. This class is open to
every one of all ages. For more information or to learn how to sign up for this

START SMART BASKETBALL
Start Smart Basketball is a parent-child participation program for children ages 5-
7, who have little experience playing basketball and want to prepare for recreation
leagues. This program teaches children a variety of skills including; dribbling/ball
handling, passing/catching, shooting and running/agility. This is an excellent way
to prepare your child for organized basketball in a fun and easy to learn
environment. Each participant receives the following: 1 participant manual, 1
mini basketball, 1 telson basketball, and 4 cones (all included in the class fee). For

FAMILY NUTRITION PROGRAMS
By participating in FNP (Family Nutrition Programs) classes, adults and youth are
able to learn ways to expand the variety of food in their diets and how to construct
a diet lower in fat. Food purchasing, food handling, and food storage strategies are
learned to help families stretch food dollars further. FNP participants also learn
how health habits can affect their diets and overall health. Adults are given the
opportunity to view a cooking demonstration and taste a healthier food option
during most classes. Classes are free; however, they are limited to the first 12
registered participants. Registration deadline is Friday, March 19th or when the
class is full, so please register immediately!!

BEGINNING GUITAR
Always wanted to learn to play the guitar? Now’s your chance! Let the skilled
instructors from Woodall’s Music set you on your road to creating music. Lessons
will cover the basics from strumming chords to tuning your guitar to playing
songs. This class will run for 6 straight weeks on Tuesdays, and will meet in the
Henry County Administration Building from 7pm-8pm. Enrolled participants are
eligible for a beginner guitar package discount at Woodall’s Music (647.1973).
Cost for this class is only $50 (plus book fee of $9)!

SCRAPBOOKING CROPS
Bring your current scrapbook or card making projects to work on during the crop.
Come with questions about your current projects, any techniques, etc., and the
instructor will be glad to help you. If there is a tool or technique you would like to
know about, please let the instructor know before the crop and she will bring the
necessary items to the crop. For more information, please contact Jennifer

FIRM IT UP - AEROBICS CLASS
Low impact aerobic and sculpting classes will meet weekly in the Henry County
Administration Building Lobby. Participants should bring a mat or towel. Classes
begin January 5th and continue through April 29th (classes meet on Tuesdays and
Thursdays). If you are not a member of the YMCA, you will need to pre-register
through Parks and Recreation in advance of attending these classes.

THE AWESOME SCIENCE SLEEPOVER
Love science, exploring and discovering, learning new things, and getting a little
messy in the process? Then, you will love this sleepover! Join us for a night of
discovery and non-stop science explorations at the Virginia Museum of Natural
History. Pizza dinner, snacks and a continental breakfast are included.

A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS
Find out what’s up tonight in the nighttime sky. Participants will learn how to
navigate around the sky and locate some of the more common objects.

WHAT’S BEEN THERE?
Enjoy the trails at Doe Run Park to observe animal homes, tracks, and scat.
